Hello my dear students.

In this thread I would like to inform you some basic knowledge and purposes to post in this forum:
1. This forum is only purpose to submit assignment. The discussion must go to Course and Discussion forum.
2. Make sure you submit in the correct thread. For instance, Research Method assignment must be posted in Research Method thread.
3. Follow this format to submit your assignment to help the administrator check it. Mistyping the format will lead wrong scoring input. Take the risk by your own.

Analyzing Thesis

TOPIC:ANALYZING THESIS

1. Title: The Correlation Between Students’ Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension
Comments:
Based on the title of this thesis, the researcher uses correlation design and the continuous variable which the students’ vocabulary mastery is the X-variable, whereas the reading comprehension is the Y-variable.

2. Assumption and Hypothesis
The Assumption:
1. Reading is a good thing in life because it is a factor of great importance in the individual development and the most important activity in school.
2. By understanding English, people are able to communicate in English and also able to read many kinds of English texts.
3. One of the purpose.s of teaching English as a foreign language to Indonesian people is that they can read, grasp the idea and understand the book written in English. To achieve the purposes, students need a lot of words of English to master.
4. The more students have stock of words used in language, the better it will make their performance.
Comments:
By stating the assumption as mentioned above the researcher believes that there is correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. I think that this is a quite easy thesis to be conducted and doesn’t have big complexity.

The Hypothesis:
“Based on the description of vocabulary and reading above, it shows that they have close relation. To get empirical data about it the researcher will organize the test result to prove the influence of students’ achievement in vocabulary reading.”
Comments:
The hypothesis of the research is brief and clear enough. Because, the researcher has done a literature review toward their assumption. So, the hypothesis will appear after the researcher defined the assumption, found some references to support it, created the hypothesis, proved it through the research.

3. Research Problem
- Why is vocabulary very important in reading?
- How far does vocabulary support the students in reading?
- Are students who are good at vocabulary good at reading?
Comments:
The research problems are stated in the form of research questions. In my opinion, those three questions are having correlation to the title that the researcher is going to conduct. It has stated by the supporting statements in the literature review.

Variable                         : the research is content of discrit variable because based on the title, the researcher assume that simple present tense will give big impact to solve the problem.
Assumption/Hypothesis : 1. Assumption: the researcher would like to analyse the students’ problem using simple present tense when doing the descriptive writing.
2. Hypothesis                    : the researcher hope that through simple present tense, the students who still have problem when doing descriptive writing will be facilitated in using them correctly in a short time.
Research Problem         : 1. what are the dominant errors made by the eight year students of SMP N 2 Brebes in using simple present tense? And 2. What are the possible causes of the errors, if any?
Comment                          : 1. in learning and using foreign language, one of inhibiting factors is the fear making mistakes or errors. It’s means the students’ have not master yet the rules of the
                                          language being learned.
                                          2. To cope with this problem, one of the strategies widely used by linguist is error analysis. Error analysis is the study of students’ error which can be observed,
                                          analyzed, and classified to reveal something of the system operating within the learners.  Point of view implies that error analysis is useful for the teacher. Error
                                          analysis will show teachers some problems confronting the students. It is an advantage that error analysis may be tracked down to the importance of students’
                                          errors.
